How to Program your Radio

P25 is a mode that is up and coming in amateur radio.   The programming is really dependent on the Make and Model radio, but these are the basic concepts.  Also, be aware that this P25 network is based on the MMDVM project.   When the repeater is linked to one of the Talkgroups below, you will be able to talk worldwide.  When the repeater is unlinked from a Talkgroup, local communications is possible by using TG9999  The following instructions are for Motorola radios.

  • Program # Conventional Channels in your radio.

  • Setup a new ASTRO system, and input your DMR/CCS7 ID for the radio ID.

  • In the ASTRO system, edit the Talkgroup list and add the ones below.

  • Modify each conventional channel and set it to ASTRO operation (The system you created)

  • Use NAC: 293 for each personality

  • Set the Talkgroups to "Strapped" and assign one to each of the 7 conventional personalities.

  • *Important*  Set each personality to "Selective Squelch" operation.  This ensures you will only hear the correct Talkgroup on each channel.

  • If your Firmware supports it, activate the "Soft ID" feature.  Usually this is located in Radiowide Options.  Set your Callsign only as your Soft ID.  You will likely have to activate Soft ID also in Conventional Options.  This will allow your radio to tranmit your Callsign as well as your CCS7 ID when you key your radio.  If the recieving radio also has the feature activated, they will see your Callsign on the display instead of or in addition to your radio ID.

All P25 Talkgroups on the K5LPD repeater are PTT to activate.

In my opinion, P25 audio is the most clear audio out of all the digital modes.  It is usually crystal clear no matter where you are.
